BUDAPEST, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- Hungary's Paks nuclear power plant has returned to full capacity after weeks of reduced output caused by record-low water levels on the Danube River, Prime Minister Peter Magyar said on Wednesday.
"The Paks Nuclear Power Plant has now reached its maximum output. All four reactors and all eight turbines are operating flawlessly," Magyar said in a Facebook post.
The plant was forced to sharply reduce production earlier this month as exceptionally low Danube levels limited the amount of cooling water available. At the lowest point, only one turbine remained in operation.
Production has since been gradually restored as water levels improved and emergency measures were implemented. Two turbines were back online by Aug. 10, while three of the plant's four reactor units were operating at full capacity by Monday.
Magyar also said construction of a submerged weir designed to raise the water level near the plant's cooling-water intake was progressing faster than planned.
