TUNIS, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- The China-aided Cancer Treatment Center project in Tunisia was launched on Sunday in Gabes, a city in southeastern Tunisia.
During the groundbreaking ceremony, Walid Naija, director general of health at the Tunisian Ministry of Health, said in his address that Tunisia and China enjoy a deep friendship and maintain a high degree of mutual trust.
The launch of the project demonstrates the dynamic and growing cooperation between the two countries, he said, adding that once completed, the center will enable people in southeastern Tunisia to access high-quality cancer treatment and care more conveniently.
Liang Gang, counselor in charge of economic and commercial affairs of the Chinese Embassy in Tunisia, said that the project's commencement is a concrete action to strengthen pragmatic cooperation between the two countries and also manifestation of the deep friendship between the two peoples.
Liang expressed hope that the Chinese and Tunisian teams would work closely together to ensure the project is completed to high standards and with high quality, making it a flagship project of China-Tunisia friendship and cooperation that benefits local communities.
The China-aided Cancer Treatment Center project has a total construction area of approximately 4,000 square meters and will include a day hospital, radiotherapy area, pathology laboratory, and related supporting facilities.
