THIADIAYE, Senegal, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- The Mbour-Kaolack highway project, built by China Road and Bridge Corporation, opened to traffic on Saturday at a ceremony in Thiadiaye, Mbour Department, in Senegal's western Thies Region.

Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye attended the ceremony and said the highway reflects the "quality of the relations between Senegal and China". He said the project is "particularly important for facilitating travel" in central Senegal and improving connectivity between the central region and other parts of the country.

"The highway, which was due to be delivered at the end of September, is now open to traffic," Faye said.

The president thanked the Chinese side for its support and expressed his willingness to further deepen bilateral relations and advance cooperation with China.

Stretching 99.2 km, the Mbour-Kaolack highway connects the western coastal city of Mbour with Kaolack in central Senegal.
