Man arrested after allegedly setting fire to home, killing 3 relatives in U.S. California

SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) -- A man has been arrested after allegedly setting fire to a home in Richmond, U.S. state of California, killing three family members, including a 2-year-old girl and a 5-year-old boy, police said Thursday.

The fire broke out Tuesday night at the residence in the San Francisco Bay Area. Police identified the suspect as 32-year-old Sergio Rivera-Vega, who lived in the home.

The suspect's older sister, the mother of both children who died, remains in critical condition, according to Richmond police.

Police said investigators determined that the fire had been intentionally set. Rivera-Vega was located near the scene while detectives were investigating and was taken into custody without incident.

The fatal blaze occurred shortly after firefighters responded to another house fire nearby on the same block. Police said the two fires were unrelated, and both incidents remain under investigation.
