2 killed, 11 injured in Ukrainian attacks on Russian regions


MOSCOW, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) -- Two people were killed and 11 others injured in Ukrainian attacks on Russian regions, local authorities said Wednesday.

In the Bryansk region, a woman was killed and her grandson was wounded in Getmanskaya Buda village as a result of a drone attack, said regional acting governor Yegor Kovalchuk, adding that two more women and a man sustained injuries in Byakovo village and Klimovo town.

In the Belgorod region, a woman died from her injuries after a drone struck a passenger car in the Grayvoronsky district. A man sustained shrapnel wounds to his back and legs and was hospitalized. In a separate drone attack on the same road, another woman was injured and hospitalized with shrapnel wounds to her shoulder, thigh and knee, local authorities said.

In the Russian-controlled city of Gorlovka in the Donbas region, five people were injured in Ukrainian attacks, said the city's mayor Ivan Prikhodko.

The Russian Ministry of Defense said Wednesday that 453 Ukrainian drones were intercepted overnight across multiple Russian regions and 965 Ukrainian drones were shot down on front line area.
