SAN FRANCISCO, July 29 (Xinhua) -- U.S. social media giant Meta Platforms said Wednesday its second-quarter revenue stood at 60.8 billion U.S. dollars, an increase of 28 percent year over year.
The California-based company, parent of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, posted quarterly net income of 15.85 billion dollars, down 14 percent year on year.
Diluted earnings per share declined 13 percent to 6.18 dollars from 7.14 dollars a year earlier.
Meta's income from operations fell roughly 8 percent year over year to 18.78 billion dollars, while its operating margin narrowed to 31 percent from 43 percent.
Total costs and expenses surged 55 percent to 42.03 billion dollars. The figure included 2.4 billion dollars in charges related to legal proceedings and 1.18 billion dollars in severance expenses in connection with the May 2026 headcount reduction.
The number of family daily active people across Meta's apps averaged 3.6 billion in June, up 3 percent year over year. Ad impressions delivered across the company's family of apps increased 14 percent, while the average price per ad rose 12 percent.
"AI is accelerating our core business today, powering our next generation of products, and opening the door to entirely new enterprise opportunities," said Mark Zuckerberg, Meta founder and CEO. "The results are already showing, and I'm optimistic about the potential ahead."
Meta expects third-quarter revenue to be between 61 billion and 64 billion dollars. The company raised the lower end of its full-year expense forecast and now expects total expenses of between 165 billion and 169 billion dollars.
The company also expects full-year capital expenditures, including principal payments on finance leases, to range from 130 billion to 145 billion dollars.
