NEW YORK, July 23 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended lower on Thursday.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell by 506.93 points, or 0.97 percent, to 51,711.65. The S&P 500 sank 90.66 points, or 1.21 percent, to 7,408.3. The Nasdaq Composite Index shed 553.21 points, or 2.15 percent, to 25,137.692.
Seven of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in red, with communication services and consumer discretionary leading the laggards by going down 5.20 percent and 5.12 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, industrials and health led the gainers by rising 1.77 percent and 1.29 percent, respectively.
