Türkiye arrests 976 suspects in major anti-narcotics operation

ISTANBUL, June 22 (Xinhua) -- Turkish security forces have arrested 976 suspects during a two-week nationwide anti-narcotics operation across 76 provinces, the Interior Ministry said Monday.

During the raids, security forces confiscated about 1.7 tons of narcotic substances, along with more than 2.15 million illicit pills, the ministry said.

Authorities detained 1,926 people in the sweep, remanding 976 and releasing 376 under judicial control, with legal proceedings ongoing for the remainder, according to the ministry.

Türkiye has intensified its crackdown on drug trafficking in recent years. Its strategic location between Europe and Asia, along with busy border crossings and customs gates, has made it a key transit route for smugglers.
