China National Opera House brings Turandot to Bulgaria as part of European tour

SOFIA, June 19 (Xinhua) -- A cast of nearly 170 members from the China National Opera House (CNOH) delivered a performance of Giacomo Puccini's opera Turandot at Bulgaria's National Palace of Culture in Sofia on Friday evening.

The CNOH production remained faithful to the original masterpiece while incorporating rich Chinese artistic elements. The large audience responded with warm applause to the story of courage, wisdom, love and a Chinese princess.

Featuring the majestic Forbidden City, lavish palace settings, the iconic Chinese folk melody Jasmine Flower, exquisite stage design and meticulously crafted costumes, the production showcased authentic Chinese aesthetics.

Sofia was the fourth stop on the CNOH's European tour marking the centenary of Turandot's premiere and promoting China-Europe cultural exchange and mutual learning among civilizations.

The tour previously visited the capitals of Moldova and Romania, as well as Plovdiv, Bulgaria's second-largest city. It will conclude with performances in Belgrade, Serbia, on June 22 and in Thessaloniki, Greece, on June 25 and 26.
