NEW YORK, June 2 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended higher on Tuesday.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 228.91 points, or 0.45 percent, to 51,307.79. The S&P 500 added 9.82 points, or 0.13 percent, to 7,609.78. The Nasdaq Composite Index increased by 7.09 points, or 0.03 percent, to 27,093.9.
Seven of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in green, with utilities and materials leading the gainers by rising 1.93 percent and 1.16 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, communication services and health led the laggards by dropping 2.61 percent and 0.99 percent, respectively.
