Hungary hosts national final of "Chinese Bridge" contest

MISKOLC, Hungary, May 29 (Xinhua) -- The Hungarian final of the 25th Chinese Bridge Chinese Proficiency Competition for foreign university students on Friday has chosen a winner out of 15 contestants to represent the country for the global final in China, after intense competition in both speech and talent categories.

During the competition in the northeastern city of Miskolc, contestants first needed to deliver speeches in Chinese on the theme "One World, One Family," sharing their understanding of the topic and their impressions of Chinese culture.

Then, during the talent show, they presented different talents in various ways, including singing Chinese songs, performing traditional Chinese dances, playing the konghou (Chinese harp), calligraphy, kuaiban (a form of rhythmic storytelling) and Chinese-style crosstalk.

Marton Viktor Toth from Pazmany Peter Catholic University won the competition and will represent Hungary at the global final in China.

Addressing the event, Chinese Ambassador to Hungary Gong Tao said Chinese has been incorporated into Hungary's national education system, and the interest in the language continues to grow, offering new opportunities for young people to learn Chinese and better understand China.

China-Hungary cooperation in areas including trade, the integration of industry, education and research, and cultural and educational exchanges has been deepening, Gong said, adding that people with both Chinese language skills and professional expertise are becoming increasingly important in advancing bilateral cooperation.

Helga Kovacs, vice rector of the University of Miskolc, said the event was not only a language and cultural competition, but also an important platform for exchange. It reflects the progress made in Hungary-China relations over recent decades, including cooperation based on mutual respect, a commitment to sharing knowledge, and a shared vision for the future, she added.

The Chinese Bridge competition, organized by the Center for Language Education and Cooperation under China's Ministry of Education, is one of the most influential events in international Chinese language education.
