WARSAW/BUDAPEST, May 20 (Xinhua) -- Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar on Wednesday voiced support for closer cooperation within the Visegrad Group (V4), in a sign of improving regional ties.
Speaking at a joint press briefing after talks in Warsaw, Tusk said the revitalization of the V4, which brings together Hungary, Poland, Slovakia and the Czech Republic, was "a broader project," adding that Central and Eastern Europe should play a greater role in shaping Europe's future, according to the Polish Press Agency.
Magyar said Hungary was ready to cooperate closely with other V4 members "in all areas" to "restore the strength and influence of the V4 in Europe."
During the briefing, Tusk said Poland and Hungary would work toward a common European position on Ukraine. While reaffirming Warsaw's support for Ukraine's bid to join the European Union (EU), he stressed that Ukraine must comply with "all the rules that also applied to Poland when it joined the EU."
Magyar also highlighted security and energy cooperation as key areas, saying Hungary hoped to deepen cooperation with Poland in those fields and learn from Polish experience.
Magyar arrived in Poland on Tuesday for his first foreign trip since being sworn in as prime minister on May 9. He is scheduled to visit Vienna on Thursday.
