Morocco hosts Gaming Expo to boost creative economy, digital industry


RABAT, May 20 (Xinhua) -- The third edition of the Morocco Gaming Expo opened here on Wednesday, bringing together national and international stakeholders from the video game, esports and new technologies industries.

Over five days, participants will explore the development of Morocco's gaming ecosystem and the potential of the creative economy, while highlighting investment opportunities, youth training programs, support for startups, and technological advancements in video games and the digital sector.

According to Moroccan Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, Morocco has launched several initiatives in recent years aimed at structuring the gaming sector and strengthening its contribution to the national cultural economy through job creation and support for innovation.

The global video game industry is now worth more than 300 billion U.S. dollars, while Morocco aims to capture 1 percent of the sector's global revenue by 2030-2032, he added.

The number of gaming startups in Morocco has increased from just a few companies in 2022 to more than 40 currently, the minister said, highlighting the growing momentum of the country's gaming ecosystem.
