Over 110 delegations to attend int'l water conference in Tajikistan

DUSHANBE, May 19 (Xinhua) -- More than 110 official delegations have confirmed participation in the 4th high-level International Conference on the International Decade for Action "Water for Sustainable Development," scheduled for May 25-28 in the Tajik capital Dushanbe, a Tajik official said.

Speaking at a press briefing, Tajik Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Sanoi Boyzoda said the conference will bring together representatives from UN member states, UN agencies, international and regional organizations, international financial institutions, academia, civil society, the private sector and youth organizations.

The broad international participation reflects growing global attention to sustainable water resource management, climate change and glacier protection, he said.

Documents to be adopted at the conference, including the Dushanbe Declaration, will contain key messages, strategic recommendations and practical measures aimed at strengthening international cooperation in the field of water resources and advancing the global water agenda, said the official.

The conference agenda includes plenary meetings, thematic sessions and interactive dialogues focusing on the implementation of the International Decade for Action 2018-2028, as well as future international cooperation in the water sector.

The event will be held within the framework of the Dushanbe Water Process, an initiative launched by the Tajik government with support from the United Nations.
