1st LD: At least 1 killed in active shooting in U.S. San Diego


LOS ANGELES, May 18 (Xinhua) -- At least one person was killed Monday in an active shooter situation at the Islamic Center of San Diego (ICSD) in southern California, according to authorities and local media reports.

The San Diego Police Department said on X that officers were on scene at ICSD in the 7050 block of Eckstrom Avenue following reports of an active shooter situation.

The scene remains active but contained, the police department said, adding they have "significant resources on scene at this time."

San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria said on X that emergency personnel are on scene and actively working to protect the community and secure the area.
