4 killed as Israel intensifies strikes across S. Lebanon

BEIRUT, May 16 (Xinhua) -- At least four people were killed and six others wounded Saturday as Israel intensified strikes across southern Lebanon, according to local reports.

One person was killed and another wounded after Israeli artillery shelling targeted the vicinity of the Serbine junction in southern Lebanon.

In a separate strike, an Israeli airstrike targeted a house in the town of Tayr Felsay, killing a woman and her son, wounding five others.

In the town of Tebnine, former mayor and current municipal council member Haidar Mawasi was killed by Israeli fire, according to local reports.

Meanwhile, displacement was reported across southern Lebanon as Israel issued warnings in multiple towns, prompting residents to flee amid fears of further attacks.

Separately, Hezbollah said it launched a drone strike on Israeli soldiers in the town of Khiam, and attacked two Israeli military vehicles in the town square of Taybeh, claiming direct hits.

Lebanon's Public Health Emergency Operations Center said the cumulative toll from Israeli attacks between March 2 and May 16 has risen to 2,969 killed and 9,112 wounded.
