NEW YORK, May 12 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended mixed on Tuesday.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 56.09 points, or 0.11 percent, to 49,760.56. The S&P 500 sank 11.88 points, or 0.16 percent, to 7,400.96. The Nasdaq Composite Index shed 185.92 points, or 0.71 percent, to 26,088.2.
Seven of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in green, with health and consumer staples leading the gainers by rising 1.93 percent and 1.56 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, consumer discretionary and technology led the laggards by dropping 1.06 percent and 0.99 percent, respectively.
