Economic forum in BiH focuses on energy transition

SARAJEVO, April 29 (Xinhua) -- The Economic Forum of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) 2026 was held in Sarajevo on Wednesday, bringing together policymakers, experts and business representatives from across the country to discuss energy transition and sustainable development.

Under the theme "Energy Transition as a Generator of Growth and Sustainable Development," the forum, organized by the University of Sarajevo, focused on challenges and opportunities related to renewable energy development, regulatory frameworks and the investment climate.

Addressing the forum, Minister of Foreign Affairs of BiH Elmedin Konakovic said global conflicts are causing energy shocks while also creating opportunities for new investments and solutions, highlighting the country's development potential and prospects for stronger partnerships.

Konakovic also stressed the importance of key infrastructure and energy projects, including gas interconnections and solar energy development.

Renaud Meyer, United Nations Development Program resident representative in BiH, told the forum that the green transition is both a technical and political issue requiring clear vision and coordinated action, adding that concrete projects are needed alongside reforms.
