Int'l book fair opens in Sarajevo with record number of exhibitors


SARAJEVO, April 22 (Xinhua) -- The 37th Sarajevo international book fair opened here on Wednesday, attracting a record number of international exhibitors.

Under the motto "the Path of the Book," the six-day event brings together more than 200 exhibitors from Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) and countries across Europe, showcasing around 30,000 books with 10,000 square meters of exhibition space.

Ibrahim Spahic, president of the program council of the fair, said at the opening ceremony that the fair has been one of the most significant cultural events in the country, arousing strong public interest with large crowds attending on the opening day.

For his part, Nihad Uk, former chief of Sarajevo Canton, highlighted the importance of books in education and cultural development, stressing that investing in knowledge is key to shaping future generations.

Organizers have emphasized the significance of the fair by saying that, despite advances in artificial intelligence, books remain a fundamental source of knowledge and cultural dialogue.
