ASTANA, April 22 (Xinhua) -- Trade turnover between the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) has increased fourfold over the past 10 years, reaching 368 billion U.S. dollars, said Bakytzhan Sagintayev, chairman of the board of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC), on Wednesday.
According to the EEC press service, Sagintayev made the remarks during a meeting with SCO Secretary-General Nurlan Yermekbayev on the sidelines of a regional ecological summit in Astana.
Sagintayev noted that SCO member states account for 50 percent of the EAEU's total foreign trade turnover, highlighting the high level of economic cooperation between the two sides.
During the meeting, the officials held an in-depth exchange of views on key issues on the international agenda and discussed the current state and future prospects of cooperation between the EEC and the SCO Secretariat.
Both parties agreed that further coordination of efforts between the EAEU and the SCO would serve as an important factor in strengthening mutual trust and promoting economic growth among the member states of the two organizations.
