LONDON, April 16 (Xinhua) -- Britain's real gross domestic product (GDP) rose by 0.5 percent in February 2026 from the previous month, ahead of the shocks triggered by the conflict in the Middle East, data released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) showed on Thursday.
The figure marks an increase from the 0.1 percent monthly growth registered both in January 2026 and December 2025, according to the ONS.
The output for the services and production sectors both went up 0.5 percent month-on-month, and that for the construction sector grew by 1 percent in February, the ONS said.
David Bharier, head of research at the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC), said that economy performed better than expected at the start of the year, but this data predates the Mideast conflict, and "the full impact of the energy and shipping shocks has yet to come through."
