World Bank approves 550 mln USD for Tanzania's education, social programs

DAR ES SALAAM, April 15 (Xinhua) -- The World Bank has approved 550 million U.S. dollars in financing for Tanzania to support two strategic projects in education and social protection, Tanzania's Ministry of Finance said in a statement on Wednesday.

Of the total financing, 300 million dollars will be allocated to an education program to enhance skills development, particularly among youth, while 250 million dollars will support poor households through Tanzania's Social Action Fund, the statement said.

According to the statement, the World Bank is processing additional projects submitted by Tanzania for financing, including initiatives in energy, agro-industry and health services in Zanzibar, to help the country achieve its economic growth and social development goals.

The World Bank investments in Tanzania under the International Development Association have reached 8.96 billion dollars across 35 projects, including national and regional initiatives, the statement said.
