Kenya launches initiative to boost corporate climate governance

NAIROBI, April 8 (Xinhua) -- Kenya on Wednesday launched Chapter Zero, an initiative aimed at strengthening climate governance in the corporate sector.

Speaking at the launch in Nairobi, Principal Secretary for the State Department for Environment and Climate Change Festus Ng'eno said the initiative advances climate action and environmental sustainability.

"This initiative is a significant shift in Kenya's approach to climate change from a sectoral issue to a core economic and governance priority," he said.

Ng'eno said the government is finalizing additional regulations on carbon markets, wetlands restoration and e-waste management to enhance environmental governance and provide clarity for investors.

He added that national efforts, including the planting of 15 billion trees, will help restore degraded landscapes, enhance biodiversity and support livelihoods.

The Chapter Zero initiative is expected to support companies in adopting climate financial disclosures and aligning corporate strategies with national and global sustainability goals.
