Ethiopia's export revenue hits record 6.7 bln USD in 8 months

ADDIS ABABA, April 2 (Xinhua) -- Ethiopia has generated a record 6.76 billion U.S. dollars in export revenue over the past eight months, driven by strong performance across key export sectors, the government announced on Wednesday.

Presenting the ministry's performance report to the House of Peoples' Representatives, Minister of Trade and Regional Integration Kassahun Gofe said the country earned the export revenue during the first eight months of the 2025/2026 fiscal year, which began on July 8.

The minister said that the reported export revenue represents an increase of 2.4 billion dollars compared with the same period last fiscal year. The figure also exceeds the government's target of 5.83 billion dollars for the reporting period.

Data showed that export earnings from the mining, agriculture, electricity and manufacturing sectors "significantly outperformed expectations."

Gofe attributed the country's improved export performance to ongoing economic reforms and various enabling measures.

He said the ministry provided more than 2.6 million online business registration and licensing services during the past eight months under the government's "Digital Ethiopia 2030" initiative.

The country's economy is projected to grow by more than 10.2 percent in the current fiscal year, according to Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.
