Mexican president says search continues for 2 aid vessels missing en route to Cuba

MEXICO CITY, March 27 (Xinhua) -- Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said Friday that search operations are still underway for two vessels that went missing while transporting humanitarian aid to Cuba.

The vessels departed on March 20 from Isla Mujeres, off Mexico's Caribbean coast, bound for Havana, according to the Mexican Navy.

Nine crew members of different nationalities were on board, the navy said in a press release.

The navy has deployed surface units and aircraft to search along the route between Isla Mujeres and the Cuban capital, coordinating with the countries of origin of those on board.

Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel on Friday expressed deep concern on social media platform X over the two missing Mexican vessels, adding that Cuba is making every possible effort to assist in the search and rescue operations.
