Zambia's economy expands by 3.8 pct in 2025

LUSAKA, March 26 (Xinhua) -- Zambia's economy grew by 3.8 percent in 2025, unchanged from the previous year, according to preliminary data released by the Zambia Statistical Agency on Thursday.

Speaking at a monthly press briefing in Lusaka, the country's capital, Statistician General Sheila Mudenda attributed the growth to strong performances in the agriculture, forestry and fishing sectors, which together accounted for 51.1 percent of total growth.

She said that arts, entertainment and recreation contributed 16.5 percent, while accommodation and food services accounted for 15.5 percent. Transport and storage contributed 15.3 percent to growth, followed by manufacturing at 7.1 percent and information and communication technology at 6.4 percent.

However, she said sectors, such as wholesale and retail trade, water supply, administrative and support services, as well as financial and insurance activities, recorded negative contributions to overall growth.
