Angola records over 85,000 TB cases in 2025

LUANDA, March 25 (Xinhua) -- Angola's Ministry of Health has reported that a total of 85,793 cases of tuberculosis (TB) were recorded nationwide in 2025. This makes tuberculosis the third leading cause of overall mortality in Angola.

On Tuesday, the ministry also noted that the mortality rate decreased from 3.4 to 1.8 deaths per 100,000 people.

Tuberculosis remains a significant public health concern in Angola, particularly affecting individuals aged 25 to 34, who accounted for 25 percent of the total registered cases, it said.

Despite this concerning scenario, authorities highlighted a decrease in cases compared to 2024, when 90,058 cases were reported.

The health authority attributes this reduction to increased access to diagnosis and treatment of the disease, saying that the high number of cases continues to negatively impact public health and the economy, affecting families, communities, and national development due to school and work absenteeism and loss of productivity.
