U.S. dollar ticks up


NEW YORK, March 20 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar strengthened in late trading on Friday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, added 0.42 percent to 99.641 at 3 p.m. (1900 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro declined to 1.1559 dollars from 1.156 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound fell to 1.3337 dollars from 1.3404 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 159.22 Japanese yen, higher than 157.83 Japanese yen in the previous session. The U.S. dollar was down to 0.7885 Swiss francs from 0.7905 Swiss francs, and it slipped to 1.3707 Canadian dollars from 1.3727 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar rose to 9.3594 Swedish kronor from 9.318 Swedish kronor.
