Kyrgyzstan sees decline in annual births in 2025

BISHKEK, March 13 (Xinhua) -- Kyrgyzstan has seen a downward trend in the annual number of births in 2025, the national Kabar news agency reported Friday.

At a parliament meeting, Nurgul Ibraeva, head of a department at the Kyrgyz Ministry of Health, said that 137,980 births were registered in the country in 2025, which is approximately 2,000 fewer than in 2024.

The decline is due to several factors, Ibraeva said, noting that the attitude of young people is changing, with many seeking to achieve stability before having children.

At the same time, according to statistics, the birth rate in Kyrgyzstan's southern regions has not decreased significantly, while a more noticeable decline in births has been observed in the northern regions.
