YAOUNDE, March 11 (Xinhua) -- Cameroon said on Wednesday that it is ready to host the 14th Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization (WTO), which is to be held in the country's capital, Yaounde, from March 26 to 29.
Minister of External Relations Lejeune Mbella Mbella said the government made sustained efforts to ensure the event unfolded hitch-free.
"This is the first time our country will host the conference, and we want to make sure it is very successful," Mbella Mbella said during a briefing with diplomats and journalists in Yaounde.
On Tuesday, Acting Minister of Tourism and Leisure Gabriel Mbairobe inspected facilities to host delegates, saying that the Central African nation is expecting more than 4,000 delegates and visitors during the conference.
The conference will bring together trade ministers from across the world to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing the multilateral trading system and to take action on the future work of the WTO.
It will be chaired by Cameroon's Minister of Trade Luc Magloire Mbarga Atangana.
The ministerial conference, held every two years since 1996, is the WTO's top decision-making body.
