U.S. stocks close higher


NEW YORK, March 9 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended higher on Monday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.5 percent to 47,740.8. The S&P 500 added 0.83 percent to 6,795.99. The Nasdaq Composite Index increased 1.38 percent to 22,695.95.

Nine of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in green, with technology and communication services leading the gainers by going up 1.80 percent and 1.13 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, financials and energy led the laggards by dropping 0.52 percent and 0.43 percent, respectively.
