U.S. stocks close lower


NEW YORK, March 6 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended lower on Friday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell by 453.19 points, or 0.95 percent, to 47,501.55. The S&P 500 sank 90.69 points, or 1.33 percent, to 6,740.02. The Nasdaq Composite Index shed 361.307 points, or 1.59 percent, to 22,387.679.

Nine of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in red, with consumer discretionary and materials leading the laggards by going down 1.96 percent and 1.89 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, consumer staples and energy led the gainers by rising 0.29 percent and 0.13 percent, respectively.
