TEHRAN: A new wave of Iranian missile strikes on Israel and United States military bases has begun, Sputnik/RIA Novosti reported.
Iran's armed forces "will not allow the alarm sirens to be silenced" in Israel and at US bases, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), the elite unit of the armed forces, said.
"The sixth wave of missile and drone strikes on Israeli territory and US military bases in the region has begun," the IRGC said as quoted by the ISNA news agency on Sunday (March 1).
The IRGC noted that the strikes targeted 27 locations, including the Tel Nof air base, the Israeli army's general headquarters, and a major military-industrial complex in Tel Aviv.
"The Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran will not allow the alarm sirens in Israel and at US bases to be silenced, and will carry out harsh and varied stages of revenge through gradual, repentant strikes," the statement says.
Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was killed in his office early Saturday morning as a result of a US and Israeli missile attack. Following the Supreme Leader's death, the Iranian government declared a 40-day national mourning period and a week of non-working.
The IRGC and the Iranian army vowed to avenge Khamenei's death in published statements.
The US and Israel launched a series of strikes on targets in Iran on Saturday, including Tehran, causing damage and civilian casualties. Iran launched retaliatory missile strikes against Israeli territory, as well as against US military targets in the Middle East. – Bernama
