U.S. stocks close higher


NEW YORK, Feb. 24 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended higher on Tuesday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 370.44 points, or 0.76 percent, to 49,174.5. The S&P 500 added 52.32 points, or 0.77 percent, to 6,890.07. The Nasdaq Composite Index increased by 236.409 points, or 1.05 percent, to 22,863.682.

Nine of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in green, with consumer discretionary and industrials leading the gainers by going up 1.58 percent and 1.23 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, health and energy led the laggards by dropping 0.53 percent and 0.11 percent, respectively.
