U.S. stocks close higher


NEW YORK, Feb. 17 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended higher on Tuesday.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 32.26 points, or 0.07 percent, to 49,533.19. The S&P 500 added 7.05 points, or 0.1 percent, to 6,843.22. The Nasdaq Composite Index increased by 31.71 points, or 0.14 percent, to 22,578.39.

Seven of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in red, with consumer staples and energy leading the laggards by going down 1.51 percent and 1.37 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, real estate and financials led the gainers by rising 1.03 percent and 0.99 percent, respectively.
