PREDAZZO, Italy, Feb. 14 (Xinhua) -- Slovenia's world champion Domen Prevc soared to the gold medal with a breathtaking second-round performance in the men's large hill ski jumping event at the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics on Saturday.
Trailing first-round leader Ren Nikaido of Japan by seven points, Prevc delivered a spectacular second jump of 141.5 meters and earned a score of 154.8 points, tallying 301.8 to secure his second gold at these Games, after the mixed team.
"All the emotions are rolling in my head now. When all the people say it is maybe impossible for you to do it, then you prove them wrong by winning a gold medal here at the Olympics," Prevc said after his win.
Nikaido finished runner-up with 295.0 points, while Poland's 19-year-old Kacper Tomasiak claimed bronze with 291.2.
The Japanese had set the pace in the opening round with an impressive 140-meter jump for 154.0 points, but the 26-year-old Slovenian rallied in the second round, launching into the night sky and landing a decisive jump to clinch his victory.
