1 dead, 13 injured as joyride collapses in north India

NEW DELHI, Feb. 7 (Xinhua) -- A police officer of inspector rank died and about 13 persons were injured when a joyride collapsed at an annual fair in India's northern state of Haryana on Saturday, according to the local police.

The incident occurred at the annual Surajkund Fair in the state's Faridabad district. The police officer reportedly died while trying to save those on board the joyride, even as it began collapsing.

The injured persons, who were fair visitors, were admitted to a local hospital.

A suitable legal action will be taken against the joyride operator after a formal police complaint is registered, the police said.
