Train conductor dies after attack in SW Germany

BERLIN, Feb. 4 (Xinhua) -- A 36-year-old train conductor died on Wednesday after being assaulted during a ticket inspection on a regional train in Germany's southwestern state of Rhineland-Palatinate.

The attack occurred on Monday evening when the conductor was checking tickets. He was attacked by a passenger without a valid ticket, suffered severe head injuries and later died in hospital.

The suspect is under investigation, according to the German press agency dpa. Initial findings indicate that no weapon was used in the attack.
