BEIRUT, Feb. 3 (Xinhua) -- The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) said Tuesday that its peacekeepers were threatened by Israeli military drones in the morning during a routine patrol in southern Lebanon.

UNIFIL said two drones of the Israel Defense Forces were observed hovering over the patrol near the village of Kfar Kila, with one carrying an unidentified object. One of the drones later dropped a stun grenade that exploded about 50 meters away from the peacekeepers before flying toward Israeli territory.

No injuries were reported, and the patrol continued its activities, it added.

The mission said it has coordinated the patrol in advance with both the Israeli and Lebanese sides, calling the incident a violation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701.

Using armed drones near peacekeepers is "unacceptable," UNIFIL said, warning that such actions undermine its mandated tasks and stability efforts along the border.
