MADRID, Feb. 3 (Xinhua) -- FC Barcelona announced on Tuesday that it wants its revamped Camp Nou Stadium to host the 2029 Champions League final.
"FC Barcelona hereby formally expresses its intention to participate, together with Barcelona City Council and the Government of Catalonia, in the initial bidding process to host the 2029 Champions League Final, proposing the city of Barcelona as a potential host and Spotify Camp Nou as the proposed venue," the club said in a statement on its official website.
The club added that the application was "subject to the corresponding certification and approval by UEFA, and with the support of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF)."
"The formal submission of the final bid and the delivery of the complete dossier, including all the documentation required to be considered as host of the final, are scheduled for early June 2026," the statement concluded.
Camp Nou is undergoing a major renovation that has seen Barcelona spend two years playing at the former Olympic Stadium on Montjuic. When the work is completed, it will have a capacity of around 105,000 fans.
The stadium hosted the 1989 final between AC Milan and Steaua Bucharest and the 1999 final, when Manchester United scored two late goals to come from behind to beat Bayern Munich 2-1.
A successful bid to host the Champions League final could also provide momentum for Camp Nou to host the 2030 World Cup final.
