CBA Roundup: Liaoning, Nanjing win in overtime


BEIJING, Feb. 3 (Xinhua) -- The Liaoning Flying Leopards and the Nanjing Monkey Kings both clinched victories in overtime on Tuesday in the 23rd round of the 2025-26 Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) league.

Star guard Zhao Jiwei contributed six points and three assists in overtime alone to help Liaoning seal the win 95-82 over the Jiangsu Dragons. After the two teams tied 80-80 in regular time, Liaoning staged a 15-2 run to enjoy the home win.

The 30-year-old Zhao had all-round performance throughout the match with 16 points, seven rebounds, eight assists and three steals. Liaoning's Desmin Wells and Eric Moreland added 21 points and 21 rebounds respectively.

Jiangsu's Tahjon Starks registered a team-high 18 points but was scoreless in overtime.

In the face of the higher-ranked Shenzhen Leopards, the home team, Nanjing, won the match 126-123 even harder in two overtimes.

Both Nanjing's Jaylen Hands and Shenzhen's Terquavion Smith hit seven three-pointers, scoring 43 and 44 points respectively. Guo Haowen of Nanjing had 31 points and 10 assists in nearly 47 minutes.

In other matches, the Jilin Northeast Tigers upset the defending champion Zhejiang Lions 78-72, the Shanghai Sharks defeated the Guangdong Southern Tigers 94-84, and the Beijing Ducks won over the Fujian Sturgeons 85-77.

Elsewhere, the Tianjin Pioneers beat the Shandong Heroes 101-96, the Ningbo Rockets rallied past the Beijing Royal Fighters 79-75, and the Qingdao Eagles claimed victory over the Guangzhou Loong Lions 88-81.

The Xinjiang Flying Tigers and the Zhejiang Golden Bulls both struggled in offense until Zhejiang narrowly won 61-59. The Sichuan Blue Whales didn't win a single game yet this season so far after losing to the Shanxi Loongs 84-61.
