ATHENS, Feb. 3 (Xinhua) -- At least 14 people were killed and dozens injured after a violent confrontation between the Hellenic Coast Guard and a suspected human trafficking vessel off the Greek island of Chios on Tuesday night, Greek state broadcaster ERT said.

The clash left two Coast Guard officers wounded. The casualties included seven children and a pregnant woman. All of the injured were transported to the General Hospital of Chios for treatment.

A joint Coast Guard and Air Force search and rescue operation is underway after survivors reported that people remain missing.
