U.S. dollar ticks down


NEW YORK, Jan. 29 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar edged lower in late trading on Thursday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, decreased by 0.17 percent to 96.285 at 3:00 p.m. (2000 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro advanced to 1.1951 dollars from 1.1928 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound rose to 1.3802 dollars from 1.3776 U.S. dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 152.99 Japanese yen, lower than 153.8 Japanese yen in the previous session. The U.S. dollar fell to 0.7668 Swiss francs from 0.7712 Swiss francs, and it dropped to 1.3513 Canadian dollars from 1.3593 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar fell to 8.8268 Swedish Kronor from 8.8822 Swedish Kronor.
