U.S. dollar ticks up

NEW YORK, Jan. 28 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar climbed in late trading on Wednesday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, added 0.24 percent to 96.446 at 3:00 p.m. (2000 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro lost to 1.1928 dollars from 1.1979 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound decreased to 1.3776 dollars from 1.3780 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 153.80 Japanese yen, higher than 152.77 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar advanced to 0.7712 Swiss francs from 0.7664 Swiss francs, and it declined to 1.3593 Canadian dollars from 1.3608 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar was up to 8.8822 Swedish kronor from 8.8169 Swedish kronor.
