U.S. dollar ticks down


NEW YORK, Jan. 23 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar weakened in late trading on Friday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, fell 0.78 percent to 97.593 at 3 p.m. (2000 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro advanced to 1.1789 dollars from 1.1744 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound increased to 1.3605 dollars from 1.3491 U.S. dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 156.14 Japanese yen, lower than 158.4 Japanese yen in the previous session. The U.S. dollar decreased to 0.7858 Swiss francs from 0.7901 Swiss francs, and it slipped to 1.3718 Canadian dollars from 1.3792 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar was down to 8.9783 Swedish kronor from 9.0102 Swedish kronor.
