MOSCOW, Jan. 23 (Xinhua) -- The Bank of Russia, the country's central bank, has revoked the banking license of New Moscow Bank (NMB), marking the first such action taken by the regulator since the beginning of 2026.
The central bank said in a press release that the license was withdrawn due to violations of federal laws governing banking activities and regulatory requirements. By asset size, NMB ranked 258th in Russia's banking system.
According to the central bank, supervisory measures had been repeatedly applied to the bank over the past 12 months, including restrictions on certain banking operations.
Following the license revocation, Russia's Deposit Insurance Agency announced that insured payouts to NMB's depositors are preliminarily estimated at 132.5 million rubles (about 1.75 million U.S. dollars), based on the bank's financial reporting as of Dec. 1, 2025.
Compensation payments are expected to begin no later than Feb. 6, the agency said on Telegram.
