U.S. dollar ticks down

NEW YORK, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar fell in late trading on Tuesday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, decreased 0.41 percent to 98.642 at 3 p.m. (2000 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro was up to 1.1712 U.S. dollars from 1.1643 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound added to 1.3428 dollars from 1.3426 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 158.29 Japanese yen, higher than 158.09 Japanese yen in the previous session. The U.S. dollar fell to 0.7904 Swiss francs from 0.7974 Swiss francs, and it decreased to 1.3834 Canadian dollars from 1.3869 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar slipped to 9.1369 Swedish kronor from 9.2090 Swedish kronor.
