Chinese carmaker SAIC Motor launches new hybrid model in Israel

JERUSALEM, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) -- Chinese automaker SAIC Motor on Tuesday began the sales of a new hybrid model in Israel under its MG brand, Israeli car importer Lubinsky Group said in a statement.

The mid-size crossover SUV MG S9, a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle model, is known in China as the Roewe RX9.

The seven-seat car is powered by a 1.5-liter gasoline engine and an electric motor with a 24.4-kWh battery, providing an electric-only range of up to 100 km alongside a combined range of over 1,000 km.

The car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.6 seconds and reaches a maximum speed of 200 km/h.

Last month, two electric models of the brand, the compact crossover MG S5 EV and the mid-size crossover MG S6 EV, were launched in Israel.

Together with the three new models, MG now offers 15 models in Israel, including full-electric, hybrid, and gasoline-powered cars.

Last year, 8,473 units of the brand were sold in Israel, according to data from the Israel Vehicle Importers Association.

Chinese cars topped the sales chart in Israel in 2025, with 101,346 units sold.
