Wurst heist ever: German burglars make off with €3 worth of sausages

ERFURT: Robbers who broke into a flat in eastern Germany took nothing but a jar of sausages, leaving police and the owner wondering why they had even bothered to stage the break-in.

German Press Agency (dpa) reported that the burglars forced open the entrance door to the 29-year-old man's apartment in the town of Sömmerda, to the west of Leipzig, on Thursday (Jan 8).

Police on Tuesday (Jan 13) said the only thing the owner reported as missing was a jar of knackwurst worth about €3 (US$3.50).

The damage caused to the door is likely to "far exceed" the loot, police said.

Investigations have been launched over a particularly serious case of theft. — Bernama-dpa
