U.S. dollar ticks up

NEW YORK, Jan. 7 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar strengthened in late trading on Wednesday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, added 0.11 percent to 98.683 at 3 p.m. (2000 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro decreased to 1.1682 dollars from 1.1690 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound was down to 1.3464 dollars from 1.3502 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 156.74 Japanese yen, higher than 156.63 Japanese yen in the previous session. The U.S. dollar rose to 0.7975 Swiss francs from 0.7954 Swiss francs, and it was up to 1.3845 Canadian dollars from 1.3805 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar was down to 9.1819 Swedish kronor from 9.1966 Swedish kronor.
